Blog/Payments, escrow and fees

What is the total I pay for a video edit including fees?

Video editing total cost, from live profiles: a $5 median start, $3 to $8 across 64 editors on UGC Editing, plus packages and fees.

Payments, escrow and feesPublished Sep 24, 20265 min read50 sourced figuresBy the UGC Editing team

Across 64 editors on UGC Editing, the median starting price for an edit is $5, and half of them start between $5 and $6. Every figure here is read off live editor profiles rather than estimated. The rest of this page breaks that number down by package, by tier and by what the fees add.

The short answer

  • Median starting price: $5
  • Middle half of the market: $5 to $6
  • Median standard package: $12, delivered in 5 days
  • Client total on a median job, fees included: $5.25

Rising, pro and elite editors

Every editor carries a tier, earned from their delivery record on the platform rather than bought. Across the marketplace there are 14 rising, 26 pro and 24 elite editors.

TierEditorsMedian starting price
Rising14$5
Pro26$5
Elite24$5

A higher tier buys a longer track record, not a guarantee of taste. A rising editor with a portfolio that matches your format can be the better hire for a first test, and an elite editor is worth the premium when the cut is going straight into a paid campaign.

Questions to ask before you fund an order

A short exchange before funding saves a revision round later. These are the questions experienced buyers ask.

  • Have you cut this format before? Ask for one example that is close to your brief, not the best piece in the reel.
  • What do you need from me to start? The answer tells you how organized the editor's process is.
  • Which files will I get back? Exports for each placement, a caption file, and whether the project file is included.
  • How do you want feedback? Timestamped notes on the video are faster for both sides than a list in a message.
  • What happens if the footage does not support the brief? A good editor will say so early rather than deliver something that technically follows the brief and does not work.

None of these are tests. They bring forward the conversations that would otherwise happen during revisions.

What moves the price up or down

Two briefs with the same word count can cost very different amounts. These are the things that move a quote, roughly in the order editors weigh them:

  • The state of the footage. Organized selects with clean audio cut quickly. A folder of unlabeled phone clips means hours of logging before the first decision.
  • How many cuts you need. Variations of one ad share most of the work, so a batch usually costs less per cut than ordering them one at a time.
  • Finishing. Captions, sound design, a color pass and motion graphics are each a separate skill, and each adds time.
  • The delivery window. A rush job displaces other work, and editors price that in.
  • Revision rounds. Every round included up front is time the editor has to reserve.

If a quote looks high, ask which of these is driving it. Trimming finishing you do not need is usually a better saving than hunting for a cheaper editor.

How the prices spread

The lowest starting price among editors on UGC Editing is $3 and the highest is $8. That range is wide because a starting price covers very different jobs. A caption pass on footage someone already cut sits near the bottom; a graded, sound designed ad with motion graphics sits near the top. 100% of these editors start at $200 or less.

Point in the rangeStarting price
Lowest$3
Lower quartile$5
Median$5
Upper quartile$6
Highest$8

A starting price is the floor of an editor's basic package, not a quote for your project. Read it as the price of entry: what the smallest useful job with that editor costs. Anything with more cuts, more versions or heavier finishing moves up from there, and the package table below shows by how much.

What each package tier includes

Editors on UGC Editing sell fixed packages in up to three tiers, so you can see the price, the delivery window and the number of revision rounds before you message anyone. Here is the median of each across editors on UGC Editing:

PackageMedian priceMedian deliveryRevisions included
Basic$54 days1 revision round
Standard$125 days2 revision rounds
Premium$2610 days3 revision rounds

The basic tier suits a single cut with a clear brief. Standard is where most repeat buyers land, because the extra revision room absorbs the notes a first draft always attracts. Premium makes sense when the edit carries a paid media budget and a wrong cut costs more than the package difference.

What the fees add

The editor's price is not the whole bill. Clients pay a service fee of 5% on top of the subtotal, and editors pay a commission of 10% out of it. On a job at the median starting price, that is $0.25 in client fees for a total of $5.25, while the editor keeps $4.50 after a $0.50 commission.

Both figures come from one quote, so what the client is charged and what the editor is paid always reconcile. Editors withdraw once they hold at least $25, and each withdrawal carries a flat $1 payout fee. There are no listing fees and nothing to pay to apply for a job.

Where to go from here

The fastest way to use these numbers is against real profiles. Hire with escrow, filter to the format you need, and shortlist editors whose package already covers your brief. Funding an order through escrow means you only pay once you approve the cut.

How we worked this out

Every figure on this page was computed from UGC Editing marketplace data as of Oct 15, 2026. The editor figures cover 64 profiles in scope out of 64 on the platform. Medians are lower medians, so each one is a value an editor or a brief actually listed rather than an average of two. Fees come from our own published fee schedule.

Nothing here comes from a survey, a study or an industry estimate. If our data cannot answer something, this page leaves it unanswered rather than guessing.
